The South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium Instructor Development Courses are components of the POST Instructor Development Institute (IDI) – created to develop professionalism in the delivery of law enforcement instruction. South Bay Regional’s Instructor Development Courses are engaging, active, and provide instructors with ample in-class opportunities to revise and improve the training courses they teach.

Within each of the four levels of the IDI, instructors develop their skills to design and facilitate peace officer training to create opportunities for their students to critically practice new skills and transfer these skills directly to their jobs back home. Instructors attending IDI courses choose how far they want to go in the program – they will gain basic instructor development in Level I, further development of their skills in Level II, and a focused look at instructional design in Level III. Instructors choosing to enter Level IV-Master Instructor – will be given the opportunity to develop and teach an entire course of instruction.

South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium offers Levels I and II of the IDI. Level I is the 40-hour Academy Instructor Certification Course (AICC). The AICC is open to all instructors, not just those teaching in the basic academy. IDI Level II consists of the 40-hour Level II Intermediate Instructor Development Course. South Bay Regional also offers an AICC Instructor Update, a 24-hour course contracted by POST to create opportunities for established AICC Instructors statewide to explore best practices for teaching the AICC.
