Description

This 16-hour course is designed to train public safety personnel on how to become a more effective Public Information Officer or spokesperson for his/her respective agency.  Topics will include:  role and goal of the PIO, who is "the media," state of the media, establishing better relations with the media, TV communication skills, press releases, effective news conferences, managing media access and information at crime/disaster scenes, crisis communications, and information which can/cannot be released.  Students will participate in mock interviews with class and instructor critiques.
