Description

This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for a PWC Operator to perform his/her duties safely, effectively, and competently. This is an arduous class involving running, swimming, working around rocks and boats, and operating rescue craft in challenging ocean conditions. This course provides students with baseline skills to effect surf zone and offshore rescues of distressed swimmers, surfers, windsurfers, kite surfers, kayakers, divers, and boaters.

Topics covered include the ocean environment, size up and rescue considerations, victim identification, rescue methods, PWC handling characteristics and operations, and commonly used equipment for water rescues. The course will be conducted in a variety of conditions including the beach, cliffs, ocean caves, and harbors, to apply various rescue methods.

Prerequisite

Successful completion of or current enrollment in an agency approved Fire Academy.
