Course Information

Description

This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for a Rescue Swimmer to perform his/her duties safely, effectively, and competently. This is an arduous class involving running, swimming, working around rocks and boats, and swimming in challenging ocean conditions. This course provides base line knowledge and skills necessary to enact an open ocean water rescue safely and successfully.

Topics covered include the ocean environment, size up and rescue considerations, victim identification, rescue methods, submerged victim rescue and recovery, and commonly used equipment for water rescues. The course will be conducted in a variety of conditions including the beach, cliffs, ocean caves, and harbor to apply various rescue methods.
 
All students will be required to pass a 1000m swim in under 20 minutes prior to the first day of class.
