Child Victim Investigative Interviews
April 14, 2010 - April 15, 2010
Description
This course is designed to train forensic interviewers on the National Institute of Child Health & Human Development's (NICHD) Structured Investigative Interview Protocol. This method of interviewing children who are suspected victims of physical or sexual abuse was developed by NICHD researchers and has been extensively field-tested. Proper use of this protocol virtually eliminates defense arguments that the interviewer was biased or that the interview was leading and suggestive. Participants will review the research leading to the development of the protocol and will be provided with instruction in its proper use. At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be well equipped to conduct forensic interviews in a manner that has proven to elicit the richest, most reliable detail from children who are suspected victims of physical or sexual abuse. Course Instructor: Carl Lewis, Senior Criminal Investigator (Retired) from the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. Carl has been recognized by agencies around the state and by the Superior Court of California as an expert in the field of child abuse interviewing and child sexual abuse investigation.
