Description
The Public Safety Dispatchers' Basic Course is the entry-level training requirement for dispatchers who seek employment with agencies participating in the Peace Officer Standards and Training’s (P.O.S.T.) public safety dispatcher program. This course is being offered in an extended format, Monday and Wednesday evenings, to assist non-affiliated students in exploring a potential career in Public Safety Dispatching, while still maintaining their current job. In addition, local agencies that experience scheduling difficulties with the regular three-week full time course may find this format a feasible option. Students will be introduced to the necessary skills and knowledge to work in a law enforcement communications center in a productive and professional manner and be prepared for the basic roles, responsibilities, and duties of a public safety dispatcher within the law enforcement agency. Topics include: Professional Orientation, Introduction to Law, Radio and Telephone Technologies and Procedures, Telecommunications, Workplace Communications, Cultural Diversity/Gang Awareness and Hate Crimes, Critical Incidents, Child/Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse, Domestic Violence and Missing Persons.
Designed For
