Fire Fighter I Academy Registration Info/Checklist

Prerequisites for this class are:

  • South Bay Regional Fire Fighter I Academy Preparation Class (required Spring 2019)
  • Public Safety First Aid and CPR (CA Health and Safety Code 17.97.182). Training equivalent to the current American Heart Association's guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care at the Healthcare Provider Level or BLS Level.

Registration:

South Bay Regional Fire Academy reservations are first-come, first-served. The Academy class size is limited to 30 Recruits and 5 Standby spots with no wait list. Enrollment fills up quickly, usually within 72 hours once registration opens. 

Registration is now CLOSED for Fire Fighter I Academy Class #41.

Step 1 (documentation):

Please send the following to the Fire Program Staff Assistant, Nicole Lara at ff1@theacademy.ca.gov (please submit documents in PDF format only):

If you are already registered in the Fire Fighter I Academy Preparation class, you do not need to resubmit the following documents. Please send an email notification requesting to reserve a seat in the Fire Fighter I Academy.

  • Photocopy of valid CA driver’s license, or other government-issued photo ID
  • Copy (front and back) of your medical insurance card; you must have coverage for the duration of the class
  • Copy of your valid First-Aid/CPR Card (front and back)
  • Resume

Step 2 (payment):

Once the above items are received, Nicole will contact you. Be prepared to pay the course fee of $2,834 or the deposit of $1,147. Full payment is due on or before 10/4/2018.

Step 3 (final documentation):

Your reservation in the course will be cancelled if you do not have the following paperwork submitted by 10/20/18.

If you had previously registered for the Fire Fighter I Academy Preparation Course, you do not have to reapply or submit the following paperwork. 

PT Gear:

  • Visit our office at least one month prior to class start date to be fitted for PT gear.
  • PT fittings will be by appointment only Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Contact Nicole Lara at 408-229-4244.

This class is being held in San Jose, while registration and transcripts will be processed through Gavilan College (school code: 001202). To lower your overall class fees, visit the Gavilan College financial aid page to explore options which may be available.
