Basic Police Academy Modular Level Two Registration Info/Checklist

Please do not begin any portion of the registration process until you have successfully completed Basic Police Academy Modular Level III and are cleared with our front office to begin this paperwork.

If it has been more than 12 months since receiving your Level III certificate (or it will be by the start date of the Level II course), you must schedule and pass a Level III exit exam through our main office.

Did you complete your Level III training at South Bay Regional?  If yes, skip this paragraph.  If no, you must submit a POST Training Profile.  For more information and instructions on the Profile, visit the POST General Questions web page and click on “How Do I Obtain a POST Profile?”

Registration:

To register, contact our main office at 408-229-4299. To secure a spot in the class, be prepared to pay the course deposit as listed on the course flyer.

Documentation:

Once you have paid the deposit, email copies of the following documents to Heather Gutierrez (hgutierrez@theacademy.ca.gov):

  • After confirmed reservation the staff assistant will email further college application instructions
  • BAM Two Cover Sheet
  • Photocopy/scan of your valid CA driver’s license
  • Photocopy/scan of front and back of your medical insurance card; you must have coverage for the duration of the course
  • 3-year DMV abstract (request from a DMV office); must be dated within 90 days from the start date of your course
  • Self Attestation Form (Self-Sponsored only)

Originals of the following must be brought in prior to the first day of class (adhere to time specifications) NOTE: If you are attending a current Level Three course with us, we can use proof of these documents from that class:

  • DOJ — take this form to a Livescan location (use a law enforcement facility to avoid possible delays in your clearance). Your clearance must be dated within six months prior to the start date of the class. We need the original document that the DOJ will mail to you after your fingerprints are submitted; not the receipt the Livescan operator hands to you on the day they take your prints. Be advised: DOJ does not offer expedited services.
  • Medical Exam Report — take these pages to your physician no sooner than 30 days prior to the start date of your course.

Every recruit (including agency recruits bringing their own personal firearms) must submit proof of ownership for their firearm. Agency recruits supplied with agency firearms are exempt. If you have recently purchased a new firearm, bring in your receipt of ownership. Otherwise, you must complete the appropriate form, determined by your situation, found below. The form must be notarized and mailed, along with the required form fees, to DOJ. Email a copy of the signed and notarized form to us BEFORE MAILING ORIGINAL TO DOJ.

PT Gear/Materials:

  • More information regarding PT Gear will be given upon reservation.
  • You will have access to certain class materials via Dropbox. Hard copy versions are available for an additional fee, to order a hard copy set of the class materials, click here.

Billing:

Fees for additional gear or materials must be paid in full at least two weeks prior to start date of class.

Reference items:

  • Student Needs List — review this doc as soon as possible and, if you do not already own a firearm, proceed with the handgun process early — you will have to take into account imposed waiting periods and other additional requirements may vary by supplier.

College Registration:

This course will be registered with one of our 7 Consortium Colleges.  We request that you don’t apply to the registering College until instructed to do so.  If you plan to apply for Financial Aid, including the BOG Waiver and the GI Bill, please inform the class assistant as soon as possible.
