Juvenile Correction Officer
The Juvenile Correction Officer ensures a safe, secure and humane environment for those persons who have been legally incarcerated in juvenile detention facilities.
Juvenile Correction Officers are required to complete a Juvenile Correction Officer Core course as mandated by the Corrections Standards Authority of the California Board of Corrections.
The Academy presents a 176 hour entry level course that meets the mandates of the Corrections Standards Authority. Curriculum includes: Supervision of Juveniles, Searching and Maintaining Security, Investigating and Detecting Problems within the Facility, Report Writing and Record Keeping, Counseling, Interacting and Communicating with Juveniles, Staff and Community, and Handling Emergencies.
For most counties in the Academy training region, the following is required for a position as a Juvenile Correction Officer:
- An associates degree or completion of 60 college units
- A passing score on a department/agency required entrance exam
- The successful completion of the employing agency’s interview process
- The ability to pass a comprehensive background Investigation
