Basic Fingerprint Identification and Classification

Description

This five-day course is designed for law enforcement and correctional professionals who desire to learn how to identify and classify fingerprints. It is especially suited for those who desire to become Certified Ten-Print Examiners. The course will consist of lecture, demonstrations and many hands-on practical exercises. The student will be equipped with essential skills and knowledge to: accurately identify the eight types of fingerprint patterns according to the Henry System of Fingerprint Classification and the NCIC System; analyze, compare, evaluate and verify fingerprint identifications - (The ACE-V Scientific Method); take legible inked fingerprints and Major Case / Elimination prints; develop and recover latent fingerprint impressions through the use of powders, forensic light sources, and cyanoacrylate ester (Superglue) fuming; photograph latent crime scene fingerprint impressions; and present expert fingerprint testimony in a court of law.

Instructors

Special Agent Mike Stapleton, M.A., recently retired after a career that spanned over 34 years with the FBI. As a Special Agent, Mr. Stapleton investigated an extensive range of matters that came under FBI jurisdiction such as the UNABOMBER (Ted Kaczynski), the Polly Klaas Kidnapping and Murder Investigation, and the Oklahoma City Federal Building Bombing.  He is a recognized fingerprint identification expert.  Mike is a FBI Master Police Instructor and has taught fingerprint identification courses to thousands of law enforcement professionals over the last 35 years.

Requirements

Students are REQUIRED to bring their own fingerprint magnifier equipped with a Henry Disk. Fingerprint ridge counters are also recommended but not required.

All classes require full payment or a designated deposit at time of reservation (Cashier's Check Payable to SBRPSTC, MasterCard, Visa). Agency billing may also be arranged. Financial aid and VA benefits may be available. All fees subject to change.

Cancellation / Refund Policy

Out of consideration for people who are on a waiting list please cancel your reservation no later than 21 days prior to first day of class. After the 21-day cancellation period, students will forfeit $50.00. Substitutions or transfer of registration to another (qualified public safety) member is permitted.

Course Cancellation

Each class has a minimum enrollment requirement. If the minimum enrollment is not reached for the course three weeks before the class begins, the class will be cancelled, and deposits will be refunded in full.

Tuition fee increases made at anytime by the State Chancellor's office may require collection of additional fees from students. Out of State or Non-Affiliated students who have not lived in California for at least one (1) year and one (1) day prior to state of college semester are subject to "out of state" college registration fees in addition to the fees listed above. Please check with our staff for details and exact costs.

This program is presented through the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium of Community Colleges (SBRPSTC), which includes Evergreen Valley College, Gavilan College, Monterey Peninsula College, Ohlone College, DeAnza College, Hartnell College and the College of San Mateo. This program will be funded, transcript and certified for college credit through one of these accredited institutions.
